Oakland’s finances are a MESS!!
Michael Kilian can help get them back on track…
We need a complete change of direction at the Office of the City Auditor.
The current City Auditor isn’t getting the job done – In the last four years the Office of the City Auditor has issued only 28 reports. Three of these reports were prepared by outside firms. In contrast, under the former City Auditor’s team (when I was the Chief Deputy), 190 reports were issued, all staff prepared.
The Current City Auditor isn’t responsive to our City Leaders – in 2010 representatives from the Office of the City Auditor failed to present even a single report before the Finance and Management Committee.
The Current City Auditor is too focused on press releases and ballot measures. The critical work of this office has been getting too little attention.
The Current City Auditor is putting the City’s finances at risk – the ineffective capacity demonstrated by the City Auditor during our current fiscal crisis is clear – low productivity and limited capacity will not get the job done…
It’s time for a change in leadership…
My name is Michael Kilian, and I have a proven record of providing transparency to the City’s financial dealings. I have worked for the Oakland City Auditor’s Office as the Chief Deputy City Auditor and I am completely convinced that I can lead this office back to a level of professionalism that this great city deserves.
As Oakland City Auditor my priorities will be to:
- Serve as a tough, effective and independent watchdog
- Provide transparency in financial dealings
- Ensure that public funds are spent appropriately and effectively
- Improve the capabilities of the City Auditor’s Office
- Continuously examine and monitor spending controls
I will bring back the high standards the Office of City Auditor has been known for. Under my leadership, the analyses provided by the City Auditor’s Office will prevent waste, fraud and abuse, and help bring the city into a more sound financial footing.
I look forward to working diligently with staff, the City Council and the Mayor to bring a pragmatic and efficient focus to our City’s finances.
